CiviCRM Tips and Tricks
Ever wonder what the "Same email address" checkbox is for in CiviCRM event setup? By default, CiviCRM will only let a user register once for an event with the same email address. Use this checkbox when you want to override the default.
Save time by making changes to many contacts, contributions, event registrations, or memberships at the same time! In CiviCRM, these types of bulk updates are called Batch Updates and we do them using Profiles.
One of the features of CiviCRM that is very popular is the integration of mapping services without any additional plug-ins and just a little bit of configuration. Once your mapping is configured, it is possible to plot contact records onto a map individually or as part of a group.
When you look at an address for a contact in CiviCRM, you will see a map button:
Did you know that CiviCRM allows you to create Custom Fields to collect information about your contacts? This is a powerful tool to organize your database to meet your specific needs. For example, you might want to find out what a participant’s meal choice is for an event or what their most valued issues are for which your organization advocates. These are all custom fields that can be added to CiviCRM to tailor to the needs of your organization.
CiviVolunteer is a powerful tool for managing volunteers inside your CiviCRM database. This means that you have all the great information about contacts in addition to their volunteer information.
With the new 2.0 version of CiviVolunteer comes a special profile to allow end users to share their volunteer interests with you:
Organizations often want to be able to offer discounts on events or memberships. For example, your members may benefit from discounted pricing for your annual fundraiser. CiviDiscount is a robust extension to CiviCRM that allows you to create discount codes which users can redeem when making payments for a contribution or an event. In this blog post, we will cover how to use CiviDiscount specifically for events. There are even more options available, but this will cover the basics for starters.
New feature! CiviCRM 4.6 now has the ability to group multiple donations in a single PDF letter. Do you want to be able to send one tax deduction letter for all of the qualified donations of a single contributor? Save time and resources and use this new feature in a few simple steps.<!--break-->
With the new Event Repeat Function that we talked about last month, we can now create an event series. This gives us reason to take another look at the CiviCRM Event Shopping Cart feature. Enabling the event shopping cart feature will allow users to register for multiple events at once and pay the event fees in a single transaction!
In the 4.6 release, CiviCRM added a function that has been wanted for a long time: the ability to repeat events. If you have an event (paid or free) that happens more than once, you can now set the event to repeat multiple times.
To do this, edit an event as you always would and click on the new Repeat tab.
When we first enter CiviCRM, we are presented with a dashboard that can be an overview of what is happening in your organization. Each of the components on the dashboard providing you information is called a dashlet.
