CiviVolunteer: Volunteer Interest Form
CiviVolunteer is a powerful tool for managing volunteers inside your CiviCRM database. This means that you have all the great information about contacts in addition to their volunteer information.
With the new 2.0 version of CiviVolunteer comes a special profile to allow end users to share their volunteer interests with you:
The volunteer form is special because it has a specific URL: https://youdomain.org/civicrm/volunteer/join that you can post on your website. When you install CiviVolunteer, it comes with first name, last name, email and phone fields. But because it is a CiviCRM profile, you can add any fields you want! You can also control what fields are required or not.
Go to Administer -> Customize Data and Screens -> Profiles and select Reserved Profiles. You can then click Fields to add or change fields that are in the profile.
Some fields you might want to consider adding include: interest categories, availabilities, skill level, and newsletter signup.
You can also use the responses from this form to create Smart Groups. For example, you could put all the people that have an interest in mentoring in the "potential mentors" smart group.
